Meet Dijana…

Dijana Harding was born in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. In 1984, Dijana moved to London, England, where she lived and worked and began her own family with her husband, Andrew. They have two sons.

“My creative journey began early, shaped by growing up in a loving family as an only child. Often left to entertain myself, I discovered that observation became the gateway to creation. What I observed was preserved within my artwork, creating a lasting connection between moment and memory. When successful, the artwork transports me back to the feelings that first inspired it.

I work in series, each piece intertwined with special moments from my present experience and the rich tapestry of my memory. My paintings are reflections of place, atmosphere, and feeling. I deliberately focus on the most joyful moments, aiming to capture and encapsulate positive energy—both to sustain me through life and to inspire those who encounter my work.

My process is intuitive and rooted in exploration. I approach each canvas without a fixed plan, letting the materials—paint, charcoal, pencil, and marker—lead me through a dialogue of marks and textures. This initial phase of improvisation gives way to a defining moment when a direction begins to reveal itself. From there, I refine the composition, carefully selecting color and form, balancing contrast and harmony.

Although my work is abstract, it is deeply emotional. I seek to create pieces that resonate on a personal and psychological level, inviting viewers to connect with the essence of the moment captured. The physicality of my process—the intuition, challenges, and resolutions—is embedded in each painting, reflecting the rhythms of life itself.

My use of vibrant contrasts—bright colors paired with muted tones, varied shapes set against diverse textures—creates dynamic energy and visual engagement. The interplay of line guides the eye fluidly across the surface, while the combination of materials enhances each piece’s unique character.

Ultimately, my art is an invitation to experience a visual and emotional journey. It aims to celebrate the joy of life’s unfolding narrative, capturing moments of happiness that inspire both myself and others.”
